School’s ending and the transition to summer holidays has begun! It’s time for marshmallow roasts, lake days, road trips, and quality time spent at the campsite with friends and family. Load up the RV this summer and head to one of these great family camping destinations across Canada.
1. Cultus Lake, BC
Tucked into the mountains, Cultus lake in Chilliwack, BC offers summer fun for the whole family. There are several campgrounds to choose from, including Cultus Lake Provincial Park, which offers nice, shady sites. In the small resort town you’ll find the province’s biggest waterpark, a great amusement park, and endless lake activities.
2. Drumheller, Alberta
If you’ve got dinosaur-loving kids, you’ve got to take a trip to Drumheller, Alberta. The badlands are a sight to see with impressive hoodoos and expansive canyons. Your family will love climbing the steps up to a lookout point in the jaws of the world’s largest dinosaur, a giant model T-Rex, and spending time at the Royal Tyrrell Museum viewing an impressive collection of dinosaur fossils. From provincial parks to private campgrounds, you’ve got a great selection of campgrounds to choose from in the area.
3. Wanuskewin Heritage Park
Just north of Saskatoon, the Wanuskewin Heritage Park allows you to explore over 6,000 years of Northern Plains Indigenous peoples culture. You’ll find historical sites, walking trails, tipi rings, and a buffalo pound. From May to August, your family can experience a guided archaeological dig, held Wednesday to Sunday at noon and 3 p.m. Nearby campgrounds are a great base to explore the area.
4. Lilac Resort
Ste. Anne, Manitoba
Lilac Resort in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, promises to sweep you away to paradise! Located at the gateway to the Cabot Trail, the campground is the perfect basecamp for exploring Cape Breton Island. Visit the Village of Baddeck and the historical Fortress of Louisburg to learn about the area’s history, and embark on fishing, wildlife, bird or whale watching tours.
